About RAPS
Bringing modern DevOps practices to Autodesk Platform Services.
The Story
After 15 years of working with Autodesk platforms, one pattern became painfully clear: the AEC industry has embraced sophisticated design technology but still operates these tools with manual, error-prone processes.
Software development solved this problem decades ago with CI/CD pipelines. Every code change triggers automated builds, tests, and deployments. Yet in AEC, we're still clicking through web interfaces to upload models and check translation status.
RAPS was built to bridge this gap. It's a command-line interface that makes Autodesk
Platform Services accessible to automation pipelines β the same way tools like
git, docker, and kubectl transformed software
deployment.
π€ AI-First Automation
With v3.0.0, RAPS introduces MCP (Model Context Protocol) server support β enabling AI assistants like Claude and Cursor to directly interact with Autodesk Platform Services.
Instead of memorizing CLI commands, you can now simply ask your AI assistant:
The MCP server reuses the same battle-tested API clients as the CLI, providing a seamless bridge between natural language and APS operations.
Why Rust?
Performance
Single binary, no runtime dependencies. Starts instantly, handles large file uploads efficiently, and uses minimal memory.
Reliability
Rust's type system catches entire categories of bugs at compile time. No null pointer exceptions, no data races.
Portability
Compiles to native binaries for Windows, macOS (Intel + Apple Silicon), and Linux. No Python, Node, or Java required.
Modern CLI Experience
Built with clap for excellent argument parsing, colored output, shell completions, and helpful error messages.
